CAL-RODS FEATURED CAR FOR DECEMBER 2019

Written by Ron Merry

Owner: Judy Connors

The December 2019 featured car is owned by Judy Connors and her late Husband Tom.  It is a beautiful 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air, they purchased in 2003.  Many of you know about their very nice ’40 Ford coupe, which at this time, is in the shop after experiencing an electrical fire – that car will be the subject of a later article.

Their chevy is the car you have seen at many car shows.  It has a 350/300 HP crate engine, with a GM 700R4 transmission with a lockup converter set up by 4c’s transmission, followed by a rebuilt Chevy 3rd member.

The car is painted crimson red, accented by nicely done pin-striping.  A nice finishing touch, in accenting the paint, are the wheels which are Vintiques chrome rims with painted centers matching the car with baldy hubcaps.

The chassis includes power rack and pinion steering, with a ’55 chevy tilt steering column.

The interior includes GM bucket seats, upholstered in grey fabric, billet instrument cluster/clock panels and vintage air.

According to Judy, the car has been driven “everywhere.”  A few years ago, it was taken on a trip to Napa/Mendocino.

Like many street rods, it has its own mechanical issues, one of which was on a trip to a car show in Bishop, the rear end “blew out.”  It literally blew apart.  A broken tooth chip that was floating in the oil, got to a place between the gears and actually blew the rear end apart and scattered parts all over.  Oh well, that’s all in the life of a hot-rodder.

This chevy is one of the many fine cars in the CAL-RODS line-up.
