OWNER: CARL GLAZE Carl Glaze – 1974 Chevy Nova Hatchback If you’ve ever found yourself cruising the streets of Chino, California, you might have seen a distinctive green machine parked by the Chino Airport—a 1974 Chevrolet Nova that looks as if it just rolled out of a time capsule. This nostalgic beauty combines classic style with practical use, making it a standout in both the daily commute and at car shows. Let's take a closer look at this unique ride. The exterior is painted in a striking green hue, giving the car a bold presence on the road. With stock wheels and a clean, simple look, it carries the timeless aesthetic of 1970s American muscle while maintaining an air of understated cool. Inside, the cabin continues the green theme, with the seats wrapped in stock material and a deep green upholstery that’s accented with bright lime green highlights. It's a color combo that's both vintage and vibrant, adding a playful twist to the car’s interior. Under the hood, the Nova is powered by a 350 V8 engine, capable of producing 160 horsepower. This power plant is paired with a 350 automatic transmission, offering smooth shifting and easy cruising. While it’s not the highest performer in terms of raw horsepower, the combination of reliability and simple performance makes it a fantastic daily driver. The rear axle is stock, keeping the original feel of the car intact. The Nova has been lovingly rebuilt, with the front end and rear springs getting some attention to improve ride quality. Additionally, the air system has been converted, which adds to the comfort for longer drives or show car events. Whether it's cruising through town or attending a weekend car show, this Nova handles it all with grace and reliability. After purchasing the car stock, Carl has put about 5,000 miles on it in just six months. This isn't just a showpiece—it’s a true daily driver. It serves as both a weekend fun car and a head-turner at local car shows. The Nova has become more than just a mode of transport; it’s a part of the owner's routine, regularly seen on the streets of Southern California. One of the coolest and most unique features of this particular Nova is its hatchback design. Of the approximately 400,000 Novas produced in 1974, about 34,000 of them were 2-door hatchbacks like the one Carl owns. You rarely see one like it. Originally sold with camping in mind, the car came with a tent that attaches to the back when the hatch is opened, turning the car into an impromptu camper. It’s a quirky, practical design feature that perfectly captures the spirit of the era. In a world filled with modern cars and tech-heavy features, this 1974 Chevrolet Nova stands as a reminder of a simpler time. Whether it's the car's engaging driving experience, its ability to stand out in a crowd, or the unique hatchback camping feature, this Nova offers something special to its owner. It's more than just a car; it’s a piece of history that’s still living and breathing on today’s roads. |
