Written by Doug Bithell
Owner: OWNERS: TOM AND MARILYN BRUNER YEAR: 1940 MAKE: FORD STANDARD OPERA COUPE/BUSINESS COUPE COLOR: Black UPHOLSTERY: GREY NEW ORIGINIAL COTTON ENGINE: 350 CHEVROLET WHEELS: STEEL WITH CHROME CAPS TRANS: AUTOMATIC 200R REAR END: 9” FORD FRONT END: DROPPED AXEL Tom and Marilyn get a new ride. We all knew and liked their 34 Ford, but it was time for a new one. Well, maybe not new, but different. After selling the 34, Tom started looking for lots of options: muscle car, tri-five, shoebox, etc., etc.……. The only thing he required was it had to have a trunk. After talking to Joe Rode, he was informed Judy Conners wanted to sell the 40 Ford she had. Tom looked, liked, and bought. This car had everything he wanted; looks, hot rod engine, air, power steering, nice ride and most of all, it had a trunk. This car is no trailer queen. When Judy had the car, it went to Yellowstone, Pleasanton, Bishop and many more places. Now that it is Tom and Marilyn's, in a short time, they have kept up with its travel history, attending the Dr. George show in Indian Wells, with lots of local shows with plans for a lot more. I like the fact that the car was, and will still be, on the CAL-RODS list of fine cars. |
