June’s featured car is the very different looking 1929 Roaster of Leonard Knight. Leonard keeps on coming up with the good looking and different. The low mounted body, the 33 Packard grill, the 24 Studebaker axel and the cross flow Chrysler 300 intake manifold of this car gives it a very sinister look; an appearance people are not used to seeing. With its’ deep black paint job and sharp stroked pin-striping this car just says, “Bad___”. I asked Leonard, why this car? He replied, “No reason, needed a car and I liked this one”.
He bought the car from a Mopar guy in the Bakersfield area and has had it for about a year. He claims that with those dual Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetors, he gets 60 miles on the 10 gallons of gas the tank holds. Leonard has taken the car to Redding, the O.C. Cruising for a Cure, La Verne Cool Cruise and other local shows. You know I never asked him how many pit stops he made going to Redding. I ‘m sure he drove it because he said he broke a front spring coming back. Another good addition to the CAL-RODS list of fine cars, Leonard.
