written by Doug Bithell
Owners: TJ & Susan SantarelliYEAR: 1968 MAKE: CHEVROLET RALLY SPORT CAMARO COLOR: MEDIUM LT. BLUE METALLIC UPHOLSTERY: BLUE VINYL ENGINE: 327 CHEVROLET TRANS: AUTOMATIC 700R WHEELS: STEEL WITH BEAUTY RIMS REAR END: STOCK CHEVY FRONT END: STOCK WITH ADDED DISC BRAKES TJ bought the Camaro in 1995 in San Diego for $3,900 for his daughter. The Car had some rust issues and after 2 months in the body shop for new metal and paint, it was ready for the 327 engine and the 700R trans. He also dressed it up with rally wheels, big tires, 4-barrel carb, and a raised hood. It was a happy 16th birthday for his daughter. After driving it two years to high school, two years of college, and one year of work, she wanted a newer car, so TJ bought it back from her. (Dad of the year). The car has a couple of interesting things about it. 1) It has a sort of rare option where the back seats fold down to form a platform turning the car into a business coupe. 2) It has hideaway headlights. You turn them on and the doors on the headlights open. If you are ever at a car show with TJ and the RS Camaro, he has a blast showing people how the hideaway headlights work. He will spend most of the day showing person after person the winking lights. In fact, that is my new nickname for him, {“WINKIE”}. The car has 140,000 miles on it as they drive it everywhere. They've been to Hot August Nights in Reno 6 times, Solvang, Palm Springs, Big Bear and San Diego many times and numerous local shows. No trailer queen here. TJ and Susan, we're glad you and the Camaro are with us at CAL-RODS. |
